What can make a goal possible

"I'd like to read more" is a goal. What usually decides whether it happens is something around it: whether there's a free half hour, whether the book is within reach, whether the evening is already taken. In UpWill we call these conditions what can make a goal possible, and each kind of plan is built around one.

Time

Many goals need a window: a walk after work, an hour for a side project, reading before bed. A time plan holds when it could happen and how long, and your notes record when the time was there and when you used it. Time that was available and time that was used are different facts, and both are worth knowing. See time for something.

Rest and sleep

Some plans protect space rather than fill it: a pause before the day starts, a real lunch break, sleep after night shifts. Here the useful question is often what would need to move or be covered for the space to exist. See room to rest and time for sleep.

Money

A reserve is money set aside for a cost you name (a repair, a trip home, a deposit) and a bill plan makes sure an amount is ready when it's due. Keeping the two apart matters: money set aside isn't a bill paid. See a money reserve and a bill, ready in time.

Other people

Some conditions involve someone else: time with a friend, help with a task, someone who covers a shift, a request you'd like to make. What you did (asking, offering, calling) is yours to record; what the other person answers is a separate fact. See Plans that involve other people.

Daily life and commitments

Others are about the shape of a week: freeing up a commitment, a meal that works on busy days, work that fits the time you have, room for one thing at a time, finding the words for a need. UpWill has fifteen kinds of plan in four areas; each has three examples to start from.

Start from the condition

If you're not sure which one applies, describe the goal in your own words. UpWill suggests the kinds that fit and fills in what you said; you choose what to set up. Try it without an account.

Plan it with UpWill

Speak or write about your day, and your notes keep your plans up to date. Write what you'd like to make possible and see the plan UpWill would set up.
